Vintage Accent Table Makeover/Homemade Chalk Paint
This vintage accent table was an antique store find many years ago. It was missing some of the trim and the finish on top was worn out in spots. It was one of the first pieces we thrifted after moving into our home. Originally I thought I would be using it only temporarily until I had found bigger and better furniture to fill our space but after living with it for a few years I realized how much I liked having a triangle shaped table to fit into the odd spaces in our home. When we bought this table we weren’t considering style or finish, however, we did appreciate that…

Beginner Friendly Way To Customize And Recover A Bench Seat
We were very fortunate recently to be given a piano from a co-worker of mine. It had originally belonged to one of his grandparents so it was an overwhelmingly generous gesture. When we received the piano the bench was in perfect condition. The bench isn’t something I would have chosen for our home but it does closely match the finish of the piano so until I find the perfect bench we will be keeping this one. Unfortunately it didn’t take long for my cat to discover this unblemished piece of furniture and promptly went to work on it. Thankfully the seat isn’t real leather. The majority of damage is on…

Updating Couch Cushion Covers/Minimal Sewing Skill Required
I enjoy sewing and have experience making things like valances and envelope pillow covers. I love looking at all the fabrics and textures available when beginning a project. All the beautiful choices can be overwhelming! Recently I was lucky enough to score a beautiful couch at a nearby yard sale. The only thing I didn’t care for was the color. That I changed to more my liking with fabric dye. If you would like to see how I did this you can find the method and products in a previous blog I recently wrote. The couch that is the subject in this blog was still a very good piece of…

Recover A Cube Seat Using Thrifted Denim/Adding Feet Part II
Our sewing/craft/guest bedroom is a never ending work in progress. It always ends up as the “catchall” when unexpected guests arrive or when I’m just to lazy to put things where they actually belong. When I last painted, the color didn’t come out as expected, it’s to blue and the bed could use a new mattress and box spring. There isn’t a piece of furniture that is a dedicated nightstand and the window treatments need updating. Nevertheless, it can be my favorite room, because of the crafts and sewing, or it can be the room that is never opened for the public to see, because of the state of disarray.…

Recover A Cube Seat Using Thrifted Denim/NO SEWING
My daughter and I enjoy sewing and have been using this cube as our seat over the last few years. It’s lightweight, has a padded seat and fits into the opening under the sewing machine nicely. The problem is the fabric covering it… The pattern isn’t something I would ever use in my home. It has also gotten quite a bit of damage on the corners from one of our feline friends. This cube isn’t a storage container either. It was bought for my daughters bedroom as an extra little seat that just happens to fit perfectly under the sewing machine table. I decided to cover it with a durable…

Lamp Makeover With Rice Paper, Paint and Silk Flowers.
A plain white lamp and shade. In my opinion, the best way to start a project! This lamp is clean ad needs no repairs. It was an inexpensive purchase I made a few years ago for our extra bedroom. I had been in the process of painting and throwing the room together quickly and wasn’t sure in what direction I wanted to go. So I figured buying a plain lamp and shade would enable me to change it into exactly what I wanted when the time came. Fast forward to the present…I found a different lamp for our spare room (one that definitely needs to be made over). So this…

I Made Over Our Loveseat Using RIT Dye, Paint And Decorative Glaze.
This little road side find was not only free but the perfect size for my sunroom. The man putting it on the curb was nice enough to hide it behind his truck until I could come back with my husband and get it home:) At first glance it appeared to be in great shape and in fact the cushions and the body were. It was the fabric that was in need of work and reupholstering this piece wasn’t an option at this time. The fabric was intact though a bit worn in some spots. Otherwise the biggest problem was the amount of fading in some areas. There were also some…

Antique Store Find/Table Make Over Using Gel Stain
You find the best items when your not looking! This came from a huge antique store we had stopped in on our way to a winery. It was actually being used to display other items the store was selling. It always pays to ask if you find something of interest. Fortunately it was for sale! The tag was hidden underneath. I loved the detail and this piece was $30 reduced. Score… Before I began cleaning I added a couple L brackets to the underside of the top to two of the legs. I first cleaned with a mixture of warm water, white vinegar and a pump of Dawn dish liquid.…

Dresser Set Makeover with Kilz Chalk Paint
Yes this is a dresser set makeover. You only see this one pictured due to the size of the room I’m working in. This set includes this highboy, a women’s dresser which is low and long and includes a large mirror and a nightstand. The set is in very good condition and has been used in our house for years. I decided to makeover our master bedroom and we found our two dressers that we know have in our room on Facebook Marketplace. We both wanted bigger dressers so I took the opportunity to make this set over in hopes to sell it. Thankfully no major cleaning was needed.…

Our Thrifted Dresser Painted with Kilz Paint/Finished with Behr Wax
I go through waves of scoring great Facebook Marketplace items. It’s definitely the safest way to “garage sale shop” during this pandemic. Thankfully there are still great finds out there. This guy was $75.00 and in great shape for being an antique. The missing hardware on the front of the three large drawers was included and undamaged. There were no bad odors to deal with and all the drawers slide in and out easily. Off to a good start:) The only thing I didn’t care for was the top piece screwed into the back of the dresser. It was a design element neither my husband nor I cared for…
