Holly Leaf Coasters/Decoupaged Using Napkins

I found these unfinished wooden coasters in Hobby Lobby. They were 30 percent off of the original price of $4.99 so I couldn’t pass them up!

I began by applying 2 thick coats of white craft paint. I covered the tops and the four sides. I left the bottom portion with the feet bare.

I pulled some festive napkins from my stash and found the design on them fit the coasters nicely. I fit the images on to the blocks and cut a square portion of the napkin out that was a bit bigger then the size of the square.

I removed the back layer of the napkin ad using a craft brush and Mod Podge glued the four pieces of cut napkin  onto the four coasters. I put down a layer of the glue and smoothed the napkins onto the glue using a balled up piece of plastic wrap.

To dry and set the glue quickly I baked the coasters on parchment paper. I placed them into a cold oven and set the temperature to 170 degrees. When the temperature was reached, I turned the oven off and set the timer to one hour and let the pieces cool down while still in the oven.

Once that was done I gave the tops of the coasters a layer of Mod Podge covering the entire top surface.

I then placed them back into the oven and repeated the process.

After the coasters were baked and cooled I used a 220 grit sanding block to tear away the overlapping napkin. I dragged the block in a downward motion away from the napkin to cleanly tear it away from the edge. I did this to all four sides on all four coasters.

I used Polycrylic as an extra sealer. I applied  two coats to the sides and the tops using a chip brush.

To finish this fun project I attached green glass beads from Dollar Tree that I already  had in my craft stash. They are the ones that come on a roll and you just unwind them and cut off the length you need to fit your project. I used a combination of E6000 and hot glue for a long lasting hold.

I made these to give to someone for Christmas but I’m soooo tempted to keep them for myself!
