Dainty Pink And Pearl Vase/Decoupaged With Wrapping Paper

Decoupage with wrapping paper. It can be tricky but with a little patience and a few good tips You can use your favorite wrapping paper for more then just around the outside of a gift. It can be part of the gift:)

That being said, this project was inspired by my nieces birthday and her love of anything including princesses, sparkle and pink themed bedroom decor.

The glass vase I started with came right out of my project stash.

I began by painting the entire vase with pink chalk paint and a foam brush. I prefer to do this on glass. The coverage is thicker and you don’t get brush strokes.

After the first coat was dry I mixed a little white acrylic paint with the pink chalk paint and gave the entire vase another coat to lighten it up.

I have been saving this piece of leftover wrapping paper for some time. Its thick and has sparkles on some areas which makes it very stiff. But…I was determined.

I started by cutting four images from the above sheet.

To make the image pliable enough to form on a slightly rounded surface I had to spray them with water and let them soak for a few minutes. I used Mod Podge to attach them.  Once applied I had to hold the picture flush to the vase using a slightly damp cloth until the glue set a bit.

I then smoothed the image from the center out to the edges around the whole perimeter until the majority of the wrinkles were gone.

To highlight the images, I used a sponge and the white paint and I bounced a white border around each one and around the rim on top.

Even with the painted border the edges of this paper are very apparent and required masking. I will show you how I  dealt with that after the piece was sealed.

I applied Plaid Sparkle Vanish to seal the vase overnight before applying the finishing touches. The more sparkle the better!

I glued little strings of white pearls, I had picked up in the craft store, around each picture. I used a combination of E6000 and hot glue. The E6000 has much more permanent hold and the hot glue adheres faster.

I also applied them around the rim and added pink lace to the neck.

Isn’t this the sweetest vase? The entire project was upcycled except for the beads. I had to pick up a few strands of matching size which came to under $4.00.

I’m happy to say this is already well loved and sitting on my nieces vanity:)
