Decoupage With A Holiday Card/Make A Beautiful Gift Out Of A Jelly Jar

My previous blog explained how I obtained some of the images I liked from the front of holiday cards I had received this past Christmas. The above image was off of one of those pretty cards.

A quick refresh: I spritzed the back of the card with water and let it soak in for 2-3 minutes. Then I peeled and rubbed much of the extra layers of paper off the back of the image.

This is the jar I used from my stash.

After washing the jar and cleaning the outside with alcohol, I gave it two coats of white acrylic paint. The paint said it was good on all surfaces including glass so I skipped the primer.

I attached the picture using Mod Podge and a water spritzer. The card material was a bit stiff so I used the water as a softener. I then applied a thick layer of Mod Podge over the entire image and let it dry overnight.

To cover the thicker edges of this picture I used a homemade texture paste. I dabbed it all around the perimeter of the image and a bit on the inner portion. The recipe I use is as follows:

  • 2 Tbsp. Baking Soda
  • 2 Tbsp. Mod Podge
  • 1/2 Tsp. Water
  • Stir until a thick consistency is achieved.

I wanted some sparkle all over this piece so I sealed the entire piece with Plaid Sparkle Varnish.

To get extra sparkle around the wreath I dabbed the texture paste with Triple Thick and sprinkled fine sparkle dust all over the still wet Triple Thick.

To finish, I used Mod Podge and glued a piece of lace around the top.

This is the first of three projects that I will be posting made from holiday cards I received this year.

If you would like to see more of this project you can watch the video on my You Tube Channel, Our high street home.

Thank you for stopping by:)
