How To Prepare A Card For A Decoupage Project

I have always felt that beautiful cards dont belong in the recycling bin.

Both of these images are the front half of cards I thought had beautiful artwork on them that I wanted to incorporate in future craft projects.

One thing there is an abundance of during the holiday season are beautiful cards. If you love to crafting and decoupaging they can be put to good use and recycled into one of a kind gifts.

Start by saturating the back of the card behind the image that you would like to use with water. I use a fine spray bottle.

Blot the excess water and loosen one or two of the layers from the back. Often one or two will easily pull away.

If still to thick, I rub the back of the pictures gently with my fingers and most of the extra paper will roll off. Be mindful to use light pressure when doing this to prevent the image on the front from ripping.

The above is an example of a card front I prepped and is ready to be used, probably decoupaged, onto a surface of choice.

Before removing the back layers, this picture would be much to stiff to decoupage onto most surfaces.

This technique can be be attempted on any card but definitely doesn’t work with all. I’ve had some just soak up the water and rip. The ones that don’t will be recycled into decor and or gifts:)

The image on the above jar came off of a card I received this year. This is one way to recycle the beautiful images that you love.

I hope you will give this a try. If there is a better way to take layers of paper off of the back of these pictures I would LOVE to hear about it.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Please leave any comments or questions you may have.

Take care and be safe out there:)
