Charming Pickle Jar Transformed With Rice Paper And Paint
Hello and welcome!
I’m going to show you how I changed this pickle jar from this⇑
To this⇓:)
All the supplies I used I already had except for the image used. It is rice paper from Stamperia that I have recently purchased through the mail. The picture came on a sheet that included seven other winter images at $1.99 a sheet. I definitely didn’t break the bank on this one.
After the jar was cleaned with soap and water , I cleaned the outside with alcohol and a cotton pad to get rid of any greasy residue.
I gave the jar and the lid two coats of white acrylic paint by Folk Art. I used a Folk Art brush specifically designed to use with this paint. The coverage you get when using this brush is beautiful.
I applied my rice paper picture with Mod Podge.
I decided to place a picture on the back of the jar also. I used this star I had gotten off of a Christmas card and glued it on with Mod Podge.
Once both images were in place I put a layer of Mod Podge over the entire jar and baked it to speed up the drying time of the glue.
TIP:
- Put your piece into a cold oven
- Set to the lowest setting
- Once the preheat is finished, turn the oven off and let the piece cool in the oven for one hour.
To add more color I mixed a custom blue/grey and added it around the top and bottom of the jar. I also repainted the lid with this new color.
I sealed the piece with Galaxy Glitter by DecoArt. I used it on the jar and the lid.
I added the pearl rope around the top as a finishing touch which I attached with hot glue.
I loved the way this turned out! I had no experience using rice paper in my decoupage projects before but I’m definitely a big fan. Its SO easy to work with!
