Decoupaged Glass Bottle Using Rice Paper/Air Dry Clay/Spring Inspired

Between our large home projects I usually have smaller craft projects I’m working on. The upcoming seasons always motivate me to make home decor either for our home or to give as gifts to others. I find its such a great way to pass the time and get the creative juices flowing. Even simple projects such as this, made for no specific reason makes me feel good and starts me thinking about how I would like to change my house for the upcoming Spring.

From blueberry pancakes to an empty glass Maple container comes my first spring inspired craft of the season. I love the shape of this particular bottle and have a few of them in my stash.

I first washed it with hot soapy water and after it was dry I wiped the outside down with alcohol to get rid of any greasy residue.

To start I gave this bottle two coats of white chalk paint that I pounced on with a round craft sponge.

I used Mod Podge and glued on this beautiful Stamperia rice paper. While that was drying I made some molds using Das Airdry Clay.

TIP: If you have problems getting the clay to release from the molds, put them in the freezer for 20                   minutes.

I attached the molds to the sides of the bottle with wood glue. When the molds are small like this I find it easiest to apply the glue with a small paint brush.

The only color clay I had was terra cotta but once dried the color was easily covered with the chalk paint.

I allow the molds to dry overnight before painting them. I love how these molds look!

Now that the front and sides were embellished I thought the back of the bottle was a bit to plain.

I decided to make two more little molds for the back and glued on another little picture to give this bottle a nice appearance all the way around.

Using a dry brush technique I began adding color to the molds with pink acrylic craft paint.

I also dry brushed a leaf green color on the molds. I continued to dry brush the pink, green and white paint on until I achieved the look I was going for.

When the painting was completed and had thoroughly dried, I applied 3 coats of a flat matte varnish for the topcoat. I choose to use DecoArt Ultra-Matte but a glossy varnish would also look great!

I found a complimentary pink ribbon in my stash and used that as the finishing touch around the top.

And here is my finished bottle…

This charming little bottle was so much fun to put together. I’m hoping it finds it’s way into someone’s home and becomes part of their cheery seasonal home decor:)
