Thrifted Mirrors From FB Marketplace/Used On Our Bedroom Wall

The nightstands aren’t matching but the mirrors are up doing their job  brightening up the bedroom. They’re from Facebook Marketplace and serve as the decorative wall moldings that this room lacks. Making this room brighter was the goal and mirrors can be an easy fix.

Below is the original picture as advertised.

At first they looked very plain, I was just happy I had found two large matching mirrors that would fit the space. But when I went to see them in person, they had a pretty sunburst type of carving at the top and were very solid. I felt $40.00 for the two was a great deal. No repairs were needed. Just primer and paint. I chose to prime first to seal up the chalk paint which had already been applied to them. I’m not sure what type it was but it was so “chalky” that it came off on your hands when you touched them. It was messy. It may have been a homemade mix but they definitely hadn’t been sealed.  I gave both a thick coat of all purpose primer before applying my paint.

Here’s a glimpse of our bedroom during the updating. The gold wall color was no longer working for us and neither was the antique white on the ceiling and trim.

This is a better look at the detail after primer and paint.  So pretty:)

I chose to paint the frames the same color as the wall. These mirrors are so thick I thought if I painted them the same color as the trim, which I had repainted to Behr in Polar White, they could look too obtrusive.

The new wall color is Misty Air by Benjamin Moore and we love it:) It’s a nice hint of color for the walls and is a suttle contrast to Polar White without being too creamy.

QUICK TIP:  The biggest lesson I have learned about paint is to always bring your contrasting color with you when looking at new colors. Even if you are just using a white on the ceiling and the trim, most have some tint of color that is undetectable until you hold it up against the color it will be next to. I can’t count how many paint cards I brought home thinking I had colors that weren’t too yellow to find out once I held them next to the white I’m using I was completely heading in the wrong direction:( It wastes time and is frustrating.

Here they are! Hanging them was tricky.  Each weight over twenty pounds so wall anchors and some new hardware were necessary to securely hold them in place. Make sure to talk with someone at your local hardware store if you’re unsure what would work best.

Thanks for stopping by and happy treasure hunting:)
