Home Cooked Orange Scented Cranberry Sauce

I love to make my own cranberry sauce for our holiday meals. Its easy to customize by changing the sweeteners and spices. This recipe requires no more then one half hour from start to finish and very little cooking experience is required. One other benefit is it makes my home smell amazing!

Here’s how you go from this⇑ to this⇓

I start with a medium size sauce pan. I then combine all the ingredients in the sauce pan before turning on the heat. This recipe is a combination of fresh cranberries, coconut sugar, orange juice, cinnamon sticks, water, a pinch of salt and the zest of one orange. ( The addition of ginger or cloves is also delicious)

I turn the heat on to a medium low flame and bring the mixture to a simmer. At this time keep a close eye on the berries and stir often to keep the bottom from burning.  In no time the berries start to burst and more juices are created. This doesn’t last long as it cooks it begins to thicken quickly.

I cook mine until most of the berries are burst, about 20 minutes, but you definitely don’t have to bring your cranberry sauce that far. If you like more of the berries to be whole cook yours for less time.

I love to serve mine in either a clear serving dish or one of my blue and white Bavarian China servers.

I hope you try and enjoy this easy classic holiday side dish. There is a video of the process on my You Tube Channel, Our High Street Home.
